Butterfly
Connect Butterfly to HeartLab using DICOM over TLS and configure automatic study export.
This guide covers end-to-end Butterfly setup for sending DICOM studies to HeartLab.
Applies to
- Users with Integrations: DICOM permission (typically Administrators)
- Butterfly organization administrators
Create DICOM Identity in HeartLab:
- In HeartLab, navigate to Settings > Devices > DICOM.

- Click View DICOM Endpoints and note the following under 'DICOM via TLS':
- Server AE title
- Server IP address
- TLS port (typically 11112)
- Download Server CA Certificate in PEM Format
- Click Create DICOM Identity
- Enter a name, and device AE title.
The server AE title, device AE title, server IP address and server CA certificate will be used in a later step.
Create Butterfly TLS connection
- In Butterfly, navigate to Organizational Settings > Connectivity
- Click + Add, next to Connections

- The following fields should be configured accordingly:
- Name: Enter connection nickname of your choice.
- TLS: Set to Active
- SCP Certificate: Upload the Server CA Certificate (PEM format).
- SCP Security: Set to Anonymous
- Host: Enter server IP address, noted in previous step.
- Click Save.
Add Butterfly PACS integration
- In Butterfly, navigate to Organizational Settings > Connectivity
- Click + Add, next to Integrations

- The following fields should be configured accordingly:
- Name: Connection nickname of your choice.
- Type: Must match the connection in the previous step.
- Calling AET: Enter device AE title, noted in previous step.
- AET: Enter server AE title, noted in previous step.
- Port: 1112
Enable automatic sending

- Open the target archive/folder in Butterfly.
- Select the PACS integration created above.
- Set export behavior (for example, on exam end).
Troubleshooting
- AE title mismatch is the most common cause of failed sends.
- Confirm TLS certificate upload and verify the selected connection type.
- If needed, send a single test study before enabling auto-send globally.
