HL7 Endpoints

Configure HL7 integrations and recipients so finalized reports can be delivered to EMR or external systems.

Configure HL7 integrations to route finalized report messages to an EMR or external receiving system. TO COMPLETELY REWRITE.

Applies to

  • Users with Integrations: HL7 permission (typically Administrators)

Before you begin

You will need the routing ID (MSH-6) for where you want to send reports and any provider numbers you would like to send messages to directly. You will also need to contact your HeartLab account representative for configuration-specific resources.

Create an HL7 integration

  1. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > HL7 Templates.
  2. Select Create HL7 Template.
  3. Enter integration details:
    • Integration name
    • Endpoint
    • Receiving application
    • Sending facility
    • Receiving facility (MSH-6)
    • Optional provider details
    • TLS configuration files
  4. Save the integration.

Add recipients

  1. Open the integration.
  2. Select Create Recipient.
  3. Enter recipient details and physician ID.
  4. Mark recipient as default if all completed studies should route automatically.

Send HL7 messages manually

You can send manually from:

  • Study list actions menu
  • In-study actions menu

Select endpoint, recipient, then confirm send.

Validation checklist

  • Send a test message
  • Confirm receipt in target system
  • Verify provider mapping and default recipient behavior

Troubleshooting

  • If HL7 settings are missing, confirm your role includes Integrations > HL7.
  • If delivery fails, verify endpoint, TLS files, and receiving facility ID.
